Innovation Wing welcomes our members to register their project team(s) as an Innovation Wing affiliated Student Interest Group (SIG)
To make better use of resources and
streamline operations, a new Student Interest Group (SIG) mechanism is
implemented from July 1, 2026.
Affiliated Student Interest Groups
(SIGs) and Funding Scheme
Only students or teams funded by the
Innovation Academy will be formally recognized as “affiliated Student Interest
Groups (SIGs)” under Inno Wing / Innovation Academy, creating a clear link
between support and accountability.
All Engineering undergraduates are eligible to apply for Inno Wing membership. They can simply complete the membership registration procedures as stated in HKU Moodle for granting access to Inno Wing. Please refer to webpage (https://innowings.engg.hku.hk/innowing1/membership/) for more details.
Non-engineering teams with urgent prototyping needs may apply for short-term access, generally for up to three months, with possible renewal subject to project proposals. This flexibility supports innovation and rapid project development across the University.
SIG status will be determined by the
outcome of funding scheme applications.
Funding Scheme Application
All Engineering undergraduate and taught postgraduates are welcome to apply for the funding scheme to cover the expenses incurred in the development of projects/activities. In general, the following items could be supported:
Materials, consumables and other necessary expenditures incurred in project development.
A maximum of 70% of travel and accommodation expenses for participation in experiential learning activities which are endorsed by the Faculty, Innovation Academy and/or Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing.
Applications are invited twice a year, in October and April:
October round: for projects running from January 1 to December 31 of the following
year.
April round: for projects running from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
